MRS Doreen Gregory, of Blackburn Road, Great Harwood died peacefully after a short illness on Saturday, August 19 surrounded by her loving family.

In her younger days Doreen worked as a cotton spinner at Birtwistle Mill in Great Harwood, affectiona­tely known as Butts, alongside her father, brother and sisters. When the mill closed she had several jobs, but loved working at a local hairdresse­rs.

Retail therapy was her passion and enjoyed hours at the Trafford Centre.

Doreen loved holidays, spending many happy times all over Europe, the Caribbean and America. Over the last few years she went on several holidays with her daughter and son-in-law to Tenerife and Benidorm where she loved to people watch. Another passion was reading, doing crosswords and puzzles often only needing to do half the puzzles to get the correct answers.

Doreen leaves her devoted husband of 61 years Reg, loving daughter Julie and son-in-law Colin, was a treasured grandma to Lindsay, Alex, Mark, Suzanne and her much adored great-grandson Oliver. She was the loving sister to Marian and dear sister-in-law to Raymond and Diann and a dear aunt to many. She was the eldest daughter of the late Harry and Ethel Starkie and sister to the late Brian, Dorothy, Audrey and Kathleen.
