MR Cornelius ‘Neil’ Martin, of Dunster Avenue, Oswaldtwis­tle, peacefully passed away in the East Lancashire Hospice on Tuesday, August 29, aged 85.

In his younger years Neil, as he was known, attended Southport Grammar School and after leaving school served his apprentice­ship as a sheet metal worker. He then went on to be a director in a successful Engineerin­g Company in Blackburn.

Neil was diagnosed at the age of 13 with diabetes, but this never held him back from living a full life. Several years ago he was featured in the local newspaper for receiving a top honour for being “An inspiratio­nal pensioner for coping for 65 years with Type 1 Diabetes” and was awarded a medal from the British Diabetes Associatio­n.

In his spare time and during his retirement Neil took pleasure in Model Railways and books. He also had a great passion for cars old and new.

A much loved husband and soulmate to Sheila, he was a devoted dad to Tony and a much loved father in law to Sylvia.

Neil will be very sadly missed all his loving family and friends.

A celebratio­n of life service will be held on Monday, September 4 at 9.40am at Accrington Crematoriu­m.
