Coleman furious at County fiasco

-

ACCRINGTON Stanley manager John Coleman has slammed Notts County for the planning and preparation that went into last week’s match. The Reds drew 2-2 with County after Mallik Wilks scored a stoppage time equaliser.

The game was unusu- ally played on Friday, and Coleman was not only furious with that decision, but also the treatment his side were given

“I was bamboozled. We had a tough game on the Tuesday and then we were forced to play this on Friday to favour Notts County,” he said.

“The top and bottom of it is we could have played on Sunday, but the EFL Trophy was given preference over a Football League game which is a disgrace.

“We were then forced to get changed in the corridor. Our changing rooms leave a lot to be desired but you can’t put a whole room inside another room and make the changing room a corridor, that’s a disgrace too.

“We were then subjected to some baffling decisions, most of them going against us.

“Their penalty was soft, that’s probably the best way to describe it. Nobody appealed for it.

“We’re then not given a penalty for a blatant handball or when Billy Kee was bordering on being assaulted.

“We then have a man sent off when all of their players tell me it’s not even a foul.

Unfortunately sometimes you don’t get the rub of the green, and we’ve not had a penalty this season when we must have had seven huge shouts for them.”

Injuries meant that Stanley had a limited squad to choose from for the match with Notts County, and Coleman has made it clear that he needs to recruit more players.

“We’ve got to tighten up and add some bodies to the squad,” he said.

“Saying we’re thin on the ground doesn’t tell the story, we’re bare. We’ve got to add some players sooner rather than later.”

Stanley sit sixth in the League Two table, having taken seven points from their four matches so far this season.

They will hope to build on their decent start when up next is a trip to the Globe Arena to take on Morecambe on Saturday.

The Reds will be hoping for a similar result to when they last travelled to Morecambe, picking up a 2-1 victory back in March.

Two goals from Shay McCartan were enough to earn Accrington all three points.
