Batting problems believes Giles

-

Giles also gave Hameed his first-class debut while at Lancashire in 2015, and was rewarded with a string of performances which saw the opener called into the England side at the age of 19 for last winter’s tour of India.

His performances there looked to have secured his long-term future in the Test side, but a torrid run of form this season has seen him left out of the England squad.

And Giles believes that’s the way it should be this winter too.

He said: “They need to leave him alone at the moment for me. There is talk that if he gets one score they will get him back in (the Test squad), but you are talking about a young lad who, although absolutely has a bright future ahead of him, looks a bit all over the place at the moment to me.

“The bits I have seen of him this season, he is technically not right at the moment.

“He played beautifully last year and they put him in, and they can bring him back I am sure because he is a good player and he has the right temperament, but he has some work to do.

“Although he did okay last year, was it slightly early?”

And another former England Ashes winner, Michael Vaughan, feels Haseeb is a ‘snick waiting to happen’ and has plenty of work to do if he is to get back into the Test side.

He said: “I would advise England to take him on a Lions tour to Australia this winter. I wouldn’t put him anywhere near the pressures of an Ashes tour.”
