ACCRINGTON walk-in centre set to be given FIFTH stay of execution Mary Ellen Lenorah Caswell: Accrington Victoria is a real asset to the NHS. [A relative] went there on Monday suffering a very bad asthma attack. Doctors stayed on past their time to attend to him before transferring him by ambulance to Blackburn. This service is vital to the health of the people. Thank you accy vic your work is very important god bless you all. Jessica Hogg: This hospital is a Godsend for people with respiratory problems. Many a time I have been there with my now three year old when she’s been struggling to breathe and they have acted so quickly and professionally and arranged an ambulance to take us to Blackburn hospital. Logan King: Needs to be open indefinitely or all hell will break loose with Blackburn hospital coming under more pressure and all GP surgeries being flooded with more patients. I was talking to a GP last week and even he said the so called hub which we are all going to have to use will never work! Julie Harrison: We do need this. My husband is the person Mary Ellen Lenorah Caswell is talking about we can’t thank the doctors enough, they were absolutely fantastic. Janina Rewaj: I took my son there as he was ill and could not get an appointment at his GP. He was seen there and then admitted to hospital and had to be kept in for two days as he was so poorly. Goodness knows what would have happened if the walk in centre wasn’t there!! Ian Ormerod: I understand 42,000 people used the service last year, where will they go when it closes? It is a much used facility and should remain open. Casee Malakian Leigh: Accy Vic are amazing and so needed. My son broke his wrist at beginning of the holidays. The accident department were wonderful. I was more upset than him and they really supported me. Nigel Lovett: Thick people voted the Tories in, what do you expect. Some Labour MPs, are Conservative in sheep’s clothing. Look at the spending in Hyndburn, very conservative, cut all services to working class public. Robert Bury: Remember people, the Walk-in and Minor Injuries are two different services here. Attended the Minor Injuries one frequently as a child/teenager haha. Malc Ibbitson: It’s a great walk-in centre, went one day last week and was in and out within 20 min- utes, superb staff. Shona Mutch: If your GP offers extra hours to augment the services available to you, use them or you will lose them too. Adrienne Foster: This proposal as I understand it only affects the GP service. The minor injuries unit remains. Diana Cleeve-Evans: What a dreadful state of affairs, I’m sorry but our treasured NHS is being ruined! Alan Entwistle: Great news, it should never be under threat of closure. Karen Allan: Disgusting even thinking about closing this service. The country is in a real mess. Catherine Bibby: Fantastic news should be kept open all the time, we need this service. Caroline Young: Great news but should be open forever! Dorothy Nightingale: We need this service x Shona Mutch: If we don’t use it , we WILL lose it ! Jo Reeves: People use it! KEEP IT OPEN!

WORKS underway on historic £2 million Accrington public square. Contractors have begun work on the area in front of the market hall and town hall (website and Observer Sept 8) Mick Woods: They should be spending the money to bring people back to shopping in Accrington. Last time I was there, the town wasn’t that busy, compared to when I was growing up there. Moving the bus station was a MASSIVE mistake too. Typical government, wasting tax payer money AS USUAL. Jadey Jones: Hahaha what is the point??? There are no shops!! You could easily do the Arndale up with that money and I don’t just mean more food places or pound shops or phone shops for that matter. First of all they moved the bus station which now has the elderly struggling to get to the market and now the market is struggling. Accrington is already a ghost town. Time for someone to pull their finger out. Brian Holden: The Arndale is a private company, not H.B.C. so do you suggest doing the Arndale up for them? Carol Jackson: Brian Holden, give the 2 million to the private company to do it up. It’ll be better spent! Agnes Byrom: What a waste of money, Accrington died when M&S left, only charity shops and cheap rubbish shops, not worth going into town now, sad but true. Can’t blame decent shops for leaving. Neil Mooney: Some people must walk around with their eyes closed if they think there is nothing wrong with that area now or they have very low expectations as to how it should look. The paths are a mess and it looks shabby like most of the town centre. It needs renovating and hopefully, more money can be found to do more renovation work around town. John Heys: What is needed is business and commerce and this will in no way provide that. Joyce Plummer: Well put Neil, again people moaning, would they prefer that lottery grant was turned down? Laura Ashley Heap: Still waste of money! What’s the point in trying to make Accrington pretty when there’s nothing to go to town for other than pound shops, betting shop, food places and charity shops?
