Derelict building owner prosecuted a second time
THE owner of a derelict building has been prosecuted at court for a second time for failing to carry out repairs.
Hyndburn council issued proceedings against Park Developments Ltd over Oswald House, on Rhyddings Street in Oswaldtwistle.
The Bradford-based company was first convicted in October last year for not complying with a notice requiring repairs to be carried out on the ‘severely dilapidated’ property. The council said since that date no repairs had been completed.
In the second case the company did not attend Blackburn Magistrates Court and was found guilty in its absence of failing to comply with a notice to execute improvement works. The firm was ordered to pay £1,845 in fines and costs.
Speaking after the hearing, councillor Clare Cleary said: “They failed to comply with the requirements of the notice and so we’ve taken the company back to court where they’ve now been handed more fines and costs.
“This is an ongoing offence, we will continue with as many prosecutions as required to make this company carry out the renovations and stop the blight on the local community.”
