-

A GIRLGUIDING member from Accrington supported Girlguiding North West England at the Manchester’s Pride festival.

Michelle Leecy joined 100 volunteers showing off their ‘guiding pride’ in the vibrant and exciting parade which celebrates the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

The 22-year-old, who helped at the event said: “I had such a great time volunteering at Pride with Girlguiding, its always such a fun experience.

“Pride was a great way to show that Girlguiding is for all girls, and that we accept everyone for who they are.”

Girlguiding bosses said the event was a chance to celebrate its diverse membership. They also had a stall where visitors had the opportunity to talk to the members of the charity about the ‘fantastic experiences available through guiding’.

Julie Bell, the region chief commissioner said: “We had such an amazing success at Pride, it was great to showcase some of the amazing things we get up to with Girlguiding.

“The volunteers came from all over the North West, so it was a fantastic time to make new friends and renew old ones.”
