THANKS FOR KIND WORDS

-

I WOULD like to take this opportunity of thanking the Mayor of Hyndburn, Peter Britcliffe for his kind words directed at the local Rotary clubs in his weekly column in last week’s edition of the Accrington Observer.

The clubs he referred to were Accrington, Church and Oswaldtwistle, Great Harwood and Rishton, Pendle View and Ribblesdale. I am sure I speak for all these Rotary clubs who very much appreciate the Mayor’s comments.

Peter Britcliffe portrays the work done by Rotary in a very accurate way, stating the many projects that are carried out throughout the year to help the community.

It is the objective of all the Rotary clubs to identify what is needed to improve the lives of the residents, whether it is for the young or elderly, or helping the disadvantaged. Promoting major projects like the Santa Sleigh, Charity Walk or similar events with the proceeds being donated to deserving local charities.

Although this type of work is undertaken by Rotarians they do find time for leisure activities like social events, sporting events and meeting Rotarians from other clubs. A strong bond of friendship develops as a result of being a Rotarian or being a friend of Rotary.

All Rotary clubs are always on the lookout for new members, obviously young men or women are desired but retired or newly retired are most welcome. They certainly can be assured of a warm reception and usually friendships are made for life.

Anyone interested to know about Rotary and which club is in their area, should contact Michael Jackson on telephone 01254 200283 who will pass on the details to the relevant club. Michael Jackson via email
