SKY BET LEAGUE TWO PORT VALE ....................... 1 STANLEY........................... 2 SHELDAN KEAY

TWO goals from Billy Kee helped Accrington Stanley come from behind and pick up all three points at Port Vale.

The striker netted either side of half-time to earn Stanley the win, after David Worrall had initially scored the opener for Port Vale.

The victory keeps third placed Stanley in contention near the top of the League Two table, and manager John Coleman was very pleased to come out on top at Vale Park.

“I’m delighted with the win. Any time you get a win, let alone an away win, is difficult in this league, so you’ve got to be proud,” he said.

“It was a surreal game as their crowd was flat at the start and I think it transmitted to the players. In the first 10 minutes we could do what we wanted, but what we did was keep the ball and not do much with it.

“It had a feel of a preseason friendly or a testimonial or an end of season match with nothing at stake, so we had to lift our game.

“We had control of the ball without really hurting them, but then we lost the ball and they had a chance where they hit the bar, and that put them on the front foot and gave them a lift.

“To be fair they had a few chances after that so their goal was coming. We knew the way they were going to play and that their striker was a handful, but we’ve still got to pick the second man up so it was a poor goal to concede from our point of view.

“We hadn’t really troubled them and the first time we went near their goal Liam Nolan had a shot off balance that didn’t go anywhere near, so we thought it was going to be one of those nights.

“Billy Kee then pops up with a great goal though which is trademark Billy, and it give us the wake up that we needed as we were much brighter in the second half.

“We got the second goal and possibly decided to see it out, but that wasn’t a tactical decision. Even the best teams in the world sense they can see it out as the clock ticks down, and I thought we defended really well, so credit to our team.”

It was a quiet start to the match with chances few and far between, but Port Vale were the side who broke the deadlock when Worrall struck on 22 minutes.
