Coley full of praise despite Blackpool defeat

-

JOHN Coleman thought Accrington Stanley’s performance against Blackpool was at times just as good as he has ever since during his time as a manager - even though they suffered a 2-1 defeat.

The Reds conceded a late goal at the Wham Stadium and came up short, but Coleman was still pleased with some elements of what he saw.

“I thought we were outstanding for periods of 20 to 25 minutes, and it was as good as any team of mine that’s played in the last 25 years,” he said.

“We didn’t take our chances though and some of them were glorious chances, but we squandered them.

“You always run the risk of losing if you don’t put the team to bed, and we give them a chance to score and they took it.

“We let the cross come in which is poor from us, and then they’ve got in across our defence and cored, so it’s a bad goal from our point of view and it’s harder to take when you’ve bossed the game for long periods.

“We needed to hit the target more. We hit the post with one chance and didn’t work their goalkeeper enough with others, so we’ve had plenty of sights on their goal.”

While Coleman was frustrated to come away with nothing, one positive he took out of the game was the return of Ben Richards-Everton.

“It was good to get him through the game and back in the team, and that will have done him the world of good,” said Coleman.

Before his midweek appearance, RichardsEverton last played for Stanley in August during the 2-2 draw at Notts County.

The 25-year-old joined the Reds in the summer having previously played for the likes of Dunfermline, Partick Thistle and Tamworth during his career.
