ACCRINGTON Stanley kept up their good run of form and remain in contention near the top of the League Two table after a win at Forest Green Rovers.

Stanley captain Seamus Conneely scored the only goal of the match shortly into the second half to earn his side all three points at The New Lawn.

The Reds are now in third place, two points off league leaders Notts County, and manager John Coleman was very pleased with the triumph against Forest Green as he felt his side were made to work hard.

“I’m delighted. The effort that we put in was first class and there were some very good performances,” he said.

“We didn’t hit the heights going forward that we normally have but I must take my hat off to Forest Green for how they’ve set their team up.

“They ran rings round us for good periods and at half-time you would have thought they were the team at the top and we were at the bottom, so they were very unfortunate to come away with nothing.

“All of our team defended magnificently, and I was especially pleased for Aaron Chapman, he was very positive in everything he did.”

Forest Green were the better team in the first half and they almost took the lead after just three minutes when Omar Bugiel was denied by a last ditch tackle by Jordan Thorniley.

Accrington then had an opportunity at the other end when Billy Kee’s shot was easily saved by Sam Russell. the edge of the Forest Green box went in via the post to make it 1-0 to the visitors.

Forest Green tried to immediately hit back, and they went close to drawing level on 76 minutes when Doidge drilled a low show narrowly wide of Chapman’s post.

Drissa Traore then thought he had found the equaliser during the closing stages when he 30-yard shot appeared to have Chapman beat, but the effort thundered off the crossbar and Stanley were able to hold on to pick up a hard-fought 1-0 win.
