ACCRINGTON Stanley have paid tribute to a popular 15-year-old Academy player after his sudden death.

Jordan Moseley died at home on Tuesday, October 17. The exact circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been disclosed.

Paying tribute to the talented young player, Stanley’s academy manager Paul Lodge described him as a ‘great athlete’ who the club were watching ‘for the future’.

He added the news had come as a ‘huge shock’ to the players and staff, and counselling was being made available.

Lodge said: “Jordan was a lovely boy, he was a good player and the type of player every manager loves. He played on the wing, was a great athlete and a good runner. He was one we were watching for the future.

“We are all in shock and we know we will have to keep an eye on the other players, with counselling available if anyone needs it. Jordan was a credit to his family, he always worked hard, he was very popular and will be missed. All the Academy lads knew Jordan and it’s been a huge shock to the staff and the players.”

Stanley players donned black armbands at Crewe Alexandra last weekend in tribute to Jordan, while travelling Reds fans carried a banner bearing the words ‘RIP Jordan’.

Fans on both sides of the pitch acknowledged his death by conducting a minute’s applause on the 15th minute.

Manager John Coleman said everyone at the club was ‘ shocked and saddened’ by Jordan’s death, and dedicated their 2-0 win to him.

Speaking after the match, he said: “The lads wanted to dedicate that to young Jordan Moseley who tragically died earlier this week and it’s left a sombre mood over the camp.

“The lads were determined to go out there today and make a statement, and as I’ve already said in the past our heartfelt sympathy goes to the family, but the best thing we could have done was put three points on as a tribute to them.

“We’ve all dedicated that one for them.”

Jordan, who lived in Middleton in Manchester, had been a member of the Stanley Academy for a number of years and was a ball boy for first team matches. He was a season ticket holder at Manchester City with his dad Gary and mum Tracy and had also played for Oldham junior teams, Chadderton Park and Heyside.

An inquest into Jordan’s death will be opened on Monday, October 30 at Rochdale Coroner’s Court.
