Hotel could be for supported living

-

A FOUR-STAR hotel could be turned into residential supported living accommodation.

National Care Group Ltd has applied for planning permission to change the use of The Maple Lodge at 70 Blackburn Road in Clayton-le-Moors.

The current hotel provides eight en-suite guest rooms with living and dining areas over three floors.

Under the new scheme six en-suite bedrooms would be created on the ground and first floor with two self-contained units at the lower ground floor.

The accommodation will be used for ‘people of varying ages who require supported living facilities’.

Planning documents said the building’s external appearance will not be altered. The facility will have one member of staff permanently on site and ‘potentially two part-time staff on site throughout the day and evenings’.

The application said: “The existing hotel car park has sufficient parking to accommodate its guests and current hotel management who live on site.

“This change of use will significantly reduce the number of vehicles accessing the site.”

A decision will be made later this year.
