Cadets celebrate Nelson’s victory

-

ACCRINGTON and District Sea Cadets have celebrated the anniversary of a historic battle with a formal Navy dinner.

More than 70 guests attended the Trafalgar Day Dinner at the Adelaide Suite in Accrington to mark Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson’s famous victory at Trafalgar.

The event, now in its 11th year, was run by Able Cadet Jade Roper and was a chance for the cadets to show off their formal stewarding skills.

Daniel Doody, 1st lieutenant of the group, said: “The evening not only celebrated the victory at Trafalgar, but also acted as a vital fundraiser for the Sea Cadets, with the £1,500 raised going towards the current project of ensuring we can purchase the property at Enfield Wharf, rather than relocate elsewhere in the town.

“The guests participated in raising the funds with fun ‘fines’ through the evening for misdemeanours, or not following the mess rules. Some even had to walk the plank.”

Dignitaries in attendance included The High Sheriff of Lancashire Robert Mitchel Webb, Hyndburn Mayor Peter Britcliffe, and Mayoress Sara Britcliffe, MP Graham Jones and members of the Royal Navy and Royal British Legion.
