MR Mervyn Thomas Crook, of Clayton-le-Moors and formerly of Great Harwood, died suddenly at his home on Wednesday, October 25, aged 73.

He was the devoted husband of the late Dorothy, much loved dad of Nicola, dear father-inlaw of Elliott, dear son of Peggy, cherished grandad of Freya and Finley, dear brother of Christine, brother-in-law of the late Frederick, treasured uncle and dear relative and friend to many. Mervyn started working at the age of 15 for Dutton Transport and later worked as a HGV mechanic for Scania until he finally retired at the age of 68.

Mervyn had a great love of wagons. He also loved sport, in particular football and cricket. In his younger years, he played cricket for the Merry England Pub and later enjoyed watching his nephew playing cricket.

He also liked to spend time at his nephew’s allotment where he would grow fruit and vegetables, and he enjoyed looking after all the family gardens.

Mervyn enjoyed family holidays abroad and trips to Kent to visit family.

He was a true family man and devoted grandad who gave a lot of his time to looking after his grandchild­ren and his extended family.

The service to celebrate Mervyn’s life was due to take place on Thursday, November 2 at All Saints Church, Clayton-le-Moors, at 10.15am, followed by interment at Dill Hall Cemetery at 11.30am.
