MR Mervyn Thomas Crook, of Clay­ton-le-Moors and for­merly of Great Har­wood, died sud­denly at his home on Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 25, aged 73.

He was the de­voted hus­band of the late Dorothy, much loved dad of Ni­cola, dear fa­ther-in­law of El­liott, dear son of Peggy, cher­ished grandad of Freya and Fin­ley, dear brother of Chris­tine, brother-in-law of the late Fred­er­ick, trea­sured un­cle and dear rel­a­tive and friend to many. Mervyn started work­ing at the age of 15 for Dut­ton Trans­port and later worked as a HGV me­chanic for Sca­nia un­til he fi­nally re­tired at the age of 68.

Mervyn had a great love of wag­ons. He also loved sport, in par­tic­u­lar foot­ball and cricket. In his younger years, he played cricket for the Merry Eng­land Pub and later en­joyed watch­ing his nephew play­ing cricket.

He also liked to spend time at his nephew’s al­lot­ment where he would grow fruit and veg­eta­bles, and he en­joyed look­ing af­ter all the fam­ily gar­dens.

Mervyn en­joyed fam­ily hol­i­days abroad and trips to Kent to visit fam­ily.

He was a true fam­ily man and de­voted grandad who gave a lot of his time to look­ing af­ter his grand­chil­dren and his ex­tended fam­ily.

The ser­vice to cel­e­brate Mervyn’s life was due to take place on Thurs­day, Novem­ber 2 at All Saints Church, Clay­ton-le-Moors, at 10.15am, fol­lowed by in­ter­ment at Dill Hall Ceme­tery at 11.30am.
