Coley blasts lack of killer instinct
ACCRINGTON Stanley manager John Coleman was critical of his team’s failure to see off Guiseley in their FA Cup first round replay.
Coleman’s side were 1-0 up against their nonleague opponents, who were down to ten men following the dismissal of Chris M’Boungou, but Guiseley equalised with a penalty and progressed via a shootout.
The Accrington boss told the club’s official website: “We’ve got to learn from these situations. We’ve tried to see out 1-0s in the past and have been successful and have been unsuccessful.
“We’ve got to learn from that. We’ve got to kill games and we didn’t try to kill the game in the second half.
“We didn’t look like scoring after we scored, against ten men, and that’s poor.
“They made the better chances in the second half of normal time.”
He added: “I’m disappointed with the way we played and maybe there’s one or two things I could’ve done differently.”
“I’ve got to sit down and analyse my decision making process.”
Stanley had goals ruled offside in both the firsthalf and extra-time, but Coleman was keen not to make excuses for his team.
“Things like that happen in football,” he said. “You have nights where it’s just not your night and as much as you try and make it your night, events can pan out that it goes against you.
“All I can be is full of praise for Guiseley for the way they stuck at it with ten men.
“They never let their heads go down. They worked ever so hard.
“They’ve been more clinical than us with their penalties.”
