ACT now to tackle ‘feral’ youths on our streets. Claim that anti-social behaviour is ‘going through the roof’ (website November 22) Lee Sayers: Heaps of countries round the world don’t have any youth clubs but the crime’s lower. The problem is the courts, the police are awesome but their hands are tied they pick up the same people on a weekly basis and they just get put straight back out on the street, zero tolerance is the answer for the little scumbags, and their parents should be punished as well. The vast majority of hard working people don’t want to live in this sort of society so why are we? John Rohe: Unfortunately sometimes the parents of these feral kids are no better, as the old adage goes, discipline starts at home. Fred Williams: Stopped discipline in schools and at home 20 years ago..... this is the result coming through. Natasha De-Maine: Having nothing to do is NO excuse for feral and often criminal behaviour.

NEW and improved Oswaldtwistle library ‘could be open by February’. Volunteers are being sought to support the library, mothballed a year ago (website, November 24) Christopher Brindle: Just goes to show what can happen when a community says ‘No’ to closing their library – we did and we won. Michele Wilkinson: That’s great news x

HYNDBURN defendants up before the courts (website November 20) Paul Vaughan: The system is wrong. How many chances do these people need? Jacqui Holden: Being drunk and disorderly in a public place and failing to surrender into custody having been released on bail. [The defendant]was given a 12-month conditional discharge order and fined £25. Drop a fag end, fined £50!
