Cup break could help Reds – Kee

STANLEY forward Billy Kee believes a break from action this weekend could benefit his side in the long run.

The FA Cup returns this weekend, but Stanley aren’t involved after they were knocked out by non-league side Guiseley in the first round.

It means the Reds don’t play until their FA Trophy clash against Lincoln City on Tuesday, and Kee is welcoming the extended rest.

“Obviously we would love to still be in the FA Cup but this break might do us good. The games have been fast and furious and it will happen again over Christmas,” he told the club’s official website. “What we have to remember is that we are third in the league and I think it will be the games over Christmas which will help to determine where we are in the league.”

Stanley remain third in the League Two table despite a 2-0 defeat at Exeter City on Saturday, and Kee was frustrated that his side came up short.

“It was really disappointing. We let ourselves down and the fans who travelled on the day down. We don’t know why but we know we will put it right in our next league game against Swindon,” he said. “It was a massive game for us, we could have gone seven points clear of fourth place, but they were the better team and now all we can do is move on.

“It’s the lowest we have been this season but we know we have not hit top form yet and there is still a long way to go in the season so we will pick ourselves up.”

Kee has also been experiencing some difficulty in front of goal in recent weeks, but he remains confident that he will be able to put things right in the near future and also hopes more goals come from the rest of the team.

“It is frustrating that I am not scoring and they do seem to have dried up. I am blaming the yellow ball like the gaffer does!” He said.

“Everyone who knows me knows I will score goals. I have got 10 league goals already and it’s a busy period over Christmas and I will score, it’s not something I am worried about. We do know, though, that as a team we need to score more and that’s something we are working on.”
