NOTHING DONE FOR MARKET

-

I AM writing to your paper after reading what Miles Parkinson said about the traders and would like to know exactly what he has done for market traders.

It took three years to get the dirty Christmas decorations down and six years on, the lights are still full of cobwebs.

The market has been left for years even though Peter Britcliffe promised to do something.

I worked on the market for 20 years in the Copper Kettle on the bus station.

When I think of what it used to be like I could cry.

Since the market was changed all those years ago it has just gone from bad to worse.

First, £2 million spent on the market hall and then promises to help market traders. What happened? Nothing.

Then you change Broadway but the market is left out again.

Now you are doing the town hall front and market hall front, but what about our market? Yes, our market. You do nothing.

We the public and people of Accrington are fed up of seeing out market and its traders let down.

We know these jobs were funded by other than the council but you always do things up that nobody really sees.

The people who come to Accrington and live in Accrington, Church, Oswaldtwistle and Clayton, I’m sure would like to see one of you keep your word and look after our market traders and, above all, our market.

By the way, thank you for the one string of lights you put up facing Wilkinsons but what about our market?

Make it bright and clean and maybe we might get it back to like it used to be.

Not as big as it used to be but a happy place to come to and not want to leave quickly. Mrs F Tattersall Accrington
