IN SEARCH OF PHARAOH
I WONDER if anyone in and around Accrington can help with this bit of research?
Bexley Local Studies and Archives Centre in SE London is trying to find photos of all those servicemen who died during WW1 with local connections to include on our Bexley Roll of Honour.
One name (and what a great name it is!) is proving elusive… It’s of Private Pharaoh Feathers, an Accrington resident, whose details are below.
FEATHERS Pharaoh:Private 4403 TheLoyalNorth LancashireRegiment, DepotBtn.Died 19/03/1916,aged46. Buried:Dartford(EastHill) Cemetery.AVickers munitionsworker, livingat ColvilleHouse,ColdBlow, Bexley.HusbandofAnnie. I’ve ‘adopted’ him in a way, as he’s buried in East Hill Cemetery in Dartford, not far from our home, and every Remembrance Day I go and visit his grave to place a poppy there in remembrance. I’d really like to find a photo of Pharaoh, to add to our research, and identify him for future commemorations.
So, if anyone can help, or pass this email on to any local history societies, archives, researchers etc who might have a photo, then I’d be very grateful. Will Cooban Librarian (p/t) Bexley Library Service Footscray Offices Maidstone Road Sidcup DA14 5HS
