-

A FLORIST shop won this year’s Best Dressed Christmas Window competition.

Victoria Flower Shop on Whalley Road in Accrington claimed the prize in the competition organised by the Hyndburn Chamber of Trade.

They fought off strong competition from Anita’s Soft Furnishings and Lilac Interiors on Warner Street in Accrington, which came joint second, and Prospects on Broadway, Accrington, and Garlands Florist in Oswaldtwistle which came joint third.

The winners received their trophies and certificates from councillor Clare Cleary and Chamber of Trade President Shahed Mahmood at Space 2 Make in Accrington. Representatives from other ‘special mention’ shops including Barbara Kay’s, Pretty Woman and Mystique also received certificates.

Shahed said they had received 70 entries this year and prizes were donated from Hyndburn businesses. He said: “We were absolutely amazed at the quality of the entries and the time people took.”

Coun Cleary said: “The quality of the windows was excellent and it was very difficult to split them apart. Everyone raised their game this year.” A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure.

Police were called to Dill Hall Lane, Church at around 11.45pm on Thursday, December 14, following reports of a ‘sexual offence’.

A police spokesperson said: “It was reported a man had been indecently exposing himself in the street.

“Officers attended and a 24-year-old man from Accrington was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure. He has been released under investigation.”
