Both have ‘put borough on map’

-

EXPLAINING their nominations for honorary Freeman, Hyndburn council leader Miles Parkinson said both David Lloyd and Bernard Dawson have ‘helped put the borough on the map’.

He said: “David is world known for his service to sport, especially cricket, and supporting Accrington Stanley. It’s recognition for putting Accrington and the borough on the world stage.

“He always reminisces of his stories of Accrington and his time here. He’s proud of his borough.

“Bernard has been at the crease at the council for 38 years with service to the residents of Peel and Huncoat. It will be a very sad day not to see Bernard on the benches of the council chamber.

“He’s been a stalwart for the Labour party.

“I don’t know how many miles he has clocked up and the tens of thousands of houses and doors he’s knocked on and talked to residents dealing with small to major issues.

“It’s been a long time at the wicket for Bernard and he’s retiring to the pavilion but not fully retiring.”

Coun Parkinson added: “It’s a proud achievement for both, serving in totally different ways and putting the borough on the map.”
