ACOUPLE have thanked a complete stranger who came to their aid after a plea for help on social media.

Sandra Kelly was stuck with her partner, Jay Burns, at Manchester Piccadilly station after discovering a bus they had planned to get home was not running.

The couple only had £15 between them and couldn’t afford the train and taxi fare home so turned to social media for help.

Sandra, 31, posted on the Hyndburn Chat Facebook group, hoping for advice on an alternative way home. Instead, Mark Boyd, a total stranger to them, offered to pick them up.

Sandra, who was a client relationship manager but is currently unemployed, says she will be forever grateful to Mark for his help.

She said: “We were stranded. Due to my mental health and history of homelessness, I broke down and didn’t know what else to do. We felt so lost and helpless.

“Then, Mark posted. He kindly offered his services of collecting us and taking us home.”

Sandra says that Mark drove the 50-mile plus round trip from Accring- ton to Manchester then dropped the pair off at their home on Sparth Road, Clayton-Le-Moors.

She said Mark refused to take their £15 as payment and insisted they just relax at home after a stressful day.

Sandra said: “What Mark did has restored our faith in humanity, it was such a selfless deed, a wonderful act of pure kindness.” Sandra and Jay, 23, had returned after visiting her mother in London on New Year’s Day.

She said they could not afford an additional train and had budgeted for the bus and were planning on walking home from Accrington.

Sandra said: “Mark was lovely and chatty all the way home and it didn’t seem to have bothered him that he had done such a wonderful thing.

“We will forever be grateful to Mark for saving us from a night on the streets.”

Sandra’s Facebook post received dozens of comments praising Mark’s generosity and kindness.
