HYNDBURN residents facing biggest council tax rise in a decade. Total bills could increase by around £70 when Hyndburn council and the emergency services confirm their precept rises (Website, January 25)

Ian Christopher: It’s got to a point were we are really having to have a good think if we can afford another child and we only have one, but I’ve never been work shy. Jim Perkin: Charged for green bin collection and made to wash, crush and bag up our cans and plastics and paper etc so they can weigh it in and get the cash. Two weekly black bin collection and never a word how much they saved on that? Ken Moss: Nothing, there was an annual grant for collecting recycling which has now been taken off HBC. The Waste Services dept are now £850,000 worse off than 12 months ago. Amanda Britland: We’re paying more for the new bin wagons that are going to recycle on the spot and some shiny new wheelie bins to put our recycling into! Who knows where we are going to put them. Shane Murray: They don’t take cut grass anymore, the council is a joke, we should get the option to pay it or not. Sam Leonard: To be quite honest, I don’t mind paying if it means services for vulnerable people are protected and other services such as police.

Neil Hewson: In other news, the roads are an absolute disgrace! I pay my road tax, it goes into the same pot, why are they full of pot holes? Karl Andrew Miller: How about the councillors and MPs take a price cut and then we talk about charging the hard working people more? Christopher Brindle: Frankly it needs to be done. It’s not risen enough for years, hence the lack of or cutting of services.
