YOUR WILDLIFE
WOULD you like to get involved in improving Hyndburn’s Wildlife? Would you like help with a range of activities and training to attract wildlife to your balcony, backyard or garden or a community green space?
If so, then The Prospects Foundation can help. Thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery, Prospects has received £19,887 for the ‘Improving Hyndburn’s Wildlife’ project.
The funding boost from Postcode Local Trust will enable Prospects to create and enhance habitats for wildlife, working with schools, faith and community groups and residents of all ages.
Prospects will support individuals and groups to develop their own spaces for wildlife by running training and activity sessions where residents can learn to identify different species, make bird and bat boxes, hedgehog homes and bug hotels while picking up tips on habitat management.
Barbara Sharples, the project officer said: “I will be organising events and will deliver some of the workshops, but for specialist events we can bring in external trainers who are specialists in the topics of insects, birds, amphibians and other species.
“We will work with a range of partner organisations such as Ribble Rivers Trust, Lancashire Wildlife Trust and Hyndburn Borough Council.
“Groups, schools and individuals will gain skills and the funding will enable individuals to develop their knowledge and achieve AQA Unit Award Scheme Certificates through practical activities.”
Mike Stapleford, charity manager said: “According to the Royal Horticultural Society and The Wildlife Trusts ‘Wild About Gardens’ initiative, two out of three of the UK’s plant and animal species have declined over the last 50 years.
“This project will enable Hyndburn residents to provide habitats and food to help species survive.”
Clara Govier, head of charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, said: “Congratulations to The Prospects Foundation on their successful grant application. We are delighted that players of People’s Postcode Lottery are able to support this project that will benefit both people and planet.”
