NO BETTER WITH TAX HIKE

-

WELL it’s that time of year again. In the next few weeks we will all be receiving our Council Tax statements for the forthcoming year for 2018/2019 which will inform us where our money has gone and where it will be spent.

Last year we had a increase of about 6pc to help to inject much needed cash for social care in the area.

This year will be no different. Unfortunately the government has continued to cut the county hall’s budgets so no headway is being made to improving the service they are still under funding.

The introduction of a £30 surcharge for Green waste a quarter of the way into the financial year last year has been a disaster, as there has been an increase in fly tipping all over the Hyndburn area which is costing the council a fortune to clean up.

This coming year the council is considering changing the way we recycle by replacing the blue bags by a wheelie bin probably with a surcharge of a set amount, watch this space.

I find it amazing that Hyndburn council are always pleading poverty but they can find a couple of million pounds to refurbish the front of the Town Hall. Am I missing something?

What do we pay our Council Tax for? We are getting these increases, but are getting a lot less for the money we pay.

For some years we had no increase in council tax, now in 12 months we are facing a rise of nearly 12pc. It’s a disgrace.

It wouldn’t be so bad if you saw a improvement but the situation is going from bad to worse. Steve Cox via email
