AMAN who threatened to petrol bomb the home of his wife has been jailed for 13 months.

Robert David Corbett, 36, targeted his estranged wife in Accrington on November 26, 2017.

Burnley Crown Court heard Corbett was already subject to a suspended sentence order from 2016 for offences of threats to kill and criminal damage perpetrated against his wife of 12 years.

Prosecuting, Emma Kehoe told the court that father of four Corbett travelled to his wife’s place of work, a betting shop in the Accrington area where he verbally abused her.

Miss Kehoe, said: “Corbett then went to his sister’s house while obviously intoxicated where he said he would petrol bomb the house where his wife was staying.”

He then travelled to the house in Accrington, where his wife was staying and tried to open a window, repeating the petrol bomb threat from outside the property.

Police were then called to the address but Corbett failed to comply with their instructions.

After a stand off he was arrested.

As part of his bail conditions for that offence and an existing restraining order he was forbidden from contacting his wife by phone.

However, again in an intoxicated state on December 20 he called his wife in an attempt to apologise for the earlier incident.

A victim impact statement from his wife said she had concerns for her own safety due to the behaviour of her husband.

She felt isolated and scared, took taxis to and from work to lower the risk of contact and had a limited social life.

In mitigation, Corbett said he fully accepted his involvement and was remorseful.

The court heard he had started drinking regularly at the age of 11 and was dependent on alcohol from the age of 15. He also suffers from autism and dyslexia.

All his previous brushes with the law were domestic related with his wife.

The court heard that Corbett, of Walter Street, Blackburn, now realised that relationship was now over. Judge Beverley Lunt told Corbett he had left a woman in fear and had breached his previous suspended sentence which would now be activated.

Corbett pleaded guilty to making threats to kill and breaching a restraining order.

He was sentenced him to 13 months in prison.
