CIVIC ARTS CENTRE AND THEATRE
WE have had a super busy month with events from children’s shows to comedy, many of which were sell-outs which we are thrilled about!
We also launched our first Open Mic Night of the year on Sunday, February 11, which was a brilliant success with people from all genres of music performing.
The level of talent was astonishing, and I can’t wait for the next one on Sunday, March 11, to see what that will bring! Everyone is welcome, from musicians, singers, poets or just come along and have a listen.
We have some fantastic events coming up in the next few weeks. On Saturday, February 24, we have Moon on a Stick theatre company with ‘The Abominable Snowman’ at 2pm; a very silly snowy adventure featuring a snowman who is more adorable than abominable. This performance is ‘relaxed’ so will be suitable for those sensitive to sensory stimulation and also suitable for children as a first theatre experience.
Immersion Theatre Company are back with The Jungle Book on Saturday, March 3, at 2.30pm, but there are only a handful of tickets left – so be quick if you fancy that one!
There are also some shows for adults coming up. On Friday, March 9, The Women’s Centre are presenting their own play, a self-produced and very funny show called ‘Bryan, The Glitch and The Orniphobes’ - a battle of the sexes with hilarious results and its only £5 a ticket (see right).
Moving on to Saturday, March 17, we have the amazing show, Dusty and The Shades of the 60s, which celebrates the life and music of one of the most iconic female artistes of our time, the legendary Dusty Springfield.
The show covers an incredibly successful decade for Dusty, featuring the songs ‘I Only Want to be With You’, ‘You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me’, ‘Son of a Preacher Man’, ‘I Just Don’t Know What to do With Myself’ and ‘You Don’t Own Me’.
We also have a couple of community events for your diary. Oswaldtwistle’s First Food and Artisan market is on Saturday, March 10, at Jubilee Gardens from 10am to 2pm and on Wednesday, March 14, at 7pm we have a ‘Big Positive Meeting’ which aims to bring together community groups across the area to aim to reach more people and get word out about things to do in our area. Everyone is welcome.
