Mrs Maker bows out as Busy Bee drops in

- YVONNE ROBINS

HAWORTH Art Gallery and lots of Hyndburn children are sorry to see that our beloved Mrs Maker is taking wellearned retirement from her post leading the gallery’s very popular children’s workshop programme.

Mrs Maker (aka Susan Watson) has worked at the gallery in a variety of roles since 2002 and became the children’s workshop leader from June 2011, developing an amazing programme of Sunday afternoon drop-in workshops as well as running a variety of activities for our family fun days.

Susan earned the nickname of ‘Mrs Maker’ from one of the children who regularly attended the Sunday workshops, which stuck with her throughout the last seven years. Although Susan will not be leading the children’s workshop programme, we are looking forward to welcoming her back in the occasional volunteer role, including that of ‘Mrs Christmas’, and as a very good friend of all the staff.

But children (and parents!) need not despair, the workshop programme will continue with our new member of staff ‘Busy Bee’, Bernadette Daly. Bee is an established artist in her own right and has led both children’s and adult workshops at the gallery in the past. She is looking to extend the gallery workshop programme to include activities during school holidays as well as the alternate Sunday programme. Just ‘like’ our Facebook page www. facebook.com/haworthartGalleryAccrington for regular updates on what’s on.

Bee’s first drop-in workshop will be on Sunday, March 4, where children can create their own Mother’s Day card. This is a FREE drop-in workshop from 1.30pm to 3.30pm and there is no need to book.

The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday 12 noon to 4.45pm, Saturday, Sunday 12 noon to 4.15pm, closed all day Monday, free entrance and parking.

The Gallery Kitchen is open for lunch and afternoon tea Tuesday to Sunday from 12 noon to 4.30pm and every Friday and Saturday evening from 5.30pm to 11pm with a delicious bistro menu. Telephone 01254 491660 to book a table.
