Newport call-off frustrates Coleman

JOHN Coleman admits it was a frustrating Saturday for his Accrington Stanley side after their match against Newport was postponed on Thursday last week.

Just like the majority of teams in the country, Stanley’s match fell victim to the severe weather conditions that hit the nation in the days leading up to last weekend.

Stanley made an early decision to postpone the game to save the Newport squad and supporters travelling north and the club deserved credit for making what was a sensible call given the severity of the weather.

Coleman was disappointed that the game couldn’t go ahead, but says his side won’t take their eyes off the prize.

“It was frustrating because we can see the end in sight, there are 11 games left – you want to be getting the games played, especially at a time when we are on a decent run of form. You have to do everything as best as you can and you still have to prepare right,” he said.

“We have got to focus all of our efforts on getting as many points on the board as possible, if that means working hard in the video room or working hard out on the training field, then it is what we will have to do. We don’t want to rest on our laurels, we want to try and do all we can to keep our fitness levels up.”
