SPORTS teams feature in Looking Back this week.

St Anne’s Boys, right (striped shirts), beat Hyndburn Park football team, right, 2-1 in the final of the Hyndburn Junior Schools competitio­n. The game was played in 1979 on the grounds of St Nicholas’s school in Church. The St Anne’s team included Neil Sarsfield, Damian Hartley, Paul Lyons, Robert Moxham, Robert McArdle, Andrew Aspin, Anthony Brerton, Graham Hesketh, Michael Wyre, Ian Persechino and Gerrard McGauley.

The Hyndburn Park line-up featured Keith Rawstron, Paul Prestage, Lee Bickerstaf­fe, Robert Smith, Stephen Reddaway, James Higson, John Tattersall, Ian Creamer, Simon Howard, Paul Stubbins, Trevor Smith and Martin Wall.

The Cavaliers team, top right, won the Accrington and District Cricket League Harry Wood Cup Final at Baxenden. They defeated Whalley Road, who had won the two previous finals, by 60 runs.

Players who took part in the last 32 stage of the Accrington and District Darts and Dominoes League are pictured at the Hare and Hounds pub in Clayton-le-Moors, left.

Dave Fisher, of the Hare and Hounds, won the championsh­ip, beating Stuart Simmons of the King’s Arms, Accrington, by two games to one.
