TONY GARDENER
MR Tony Gardener died peacefully in Longridge Community Hospital on Tuesday, March 6, aged 83.
A local electrical contractor, he was a keen cricketer, a member of Whalley Road United Reform Church and keen amateur dramatist.
Dearly-loved husband of Margaret, he was loving father of Paul and Andrew, dear father-inlaw of Kirstie and Clare and the proud grandad of Mason and Toby in New Zealand.
The funeral service will take place at 11.45am on Tuesday, March 20, at Chipping Parish Church of St Bartholomew, prior to committal at Preston Crematorium.
Family flowers only please, however donations if so desired to ‘The Christie’.

PATRICK BRERETON
MR Patrick Brereton, of Haywood Road, Accrington, passed away on Thursday, March 8, aged 83.
Patrick started his working life as an apprentice engineer and continued in engineering up to his retirement, apart from a short period running a fish and chip shop with his late wife Maureen.
He was a keen sportsman throughout his life. He played various sports, football, cricket, snooker, table tennis and in later life he took up crown green bowling.
Husband of the late Maureen, and muchloved father of the late Mark, he leaves children Catherine, Barbara and Anthony. He was grandfather to Lizzie, Karla, Victoria, Ryan, George and Rebecca, and great-grandfather to Brooke and Patrick.
A funeral service will be held at 10.15am on Wednesday, March 21, with a Requiem Mass at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Belgrave Road, Accrington, administered by Father Stamp followed by cremation at Accrington Crematorium, Burnley Road, Accrington, at 11.40am.
A Wake will be held at Grey Horse Public House, Whalley Road, Accrington. All are welcome to celebrate his life.

Funeral director: Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queens Road, Accrington. MR Frank Bulmer, of Wellfield Care Home, Accrington, passed away on Friday, March 2, aged 77.
He was a sheet metal worker with Tommy Macintyer, and worked at Lang Bridges prior to retirement.
In his younger days Frank enjoyed watching football, Burnley FC in particular. He also liked wrestling and ballroom dancing. He enjoyed holidays to Bournemouth, Eastbourne and the Isle of Man.
Frank was the youngest son of the late Thomas and Ethel Bulmer, brother to Frances, Eric and their partners, and brother-inlaw to Mark and the late Shirley. He was uncle to Mark, Lynne, Kathryn, Marcia and their partners Janette, Colin and Brian.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, March 21, at Hyndburn Funeral Chapel, Queens Road, Accrington, followed by interment at St John’s Church, Baxenden, at 2.30pm, administered by Tom Donaghey.
Flowers are welcomed by the family.

DAVID SMITH
MR David Smith, of Ennerdale Close, Oswaldtwistle, passed away on Sunday, March 4, aged 94.
He worked in a senior sales position for Cadbury Schweppes prior to retirement.
He enjoyed ballroom dancing and caravanning. He attended St Mary’s Church and was involved with Ernest Street Tuesday Friends.
Husband to the late Kathleen, he was father to Stephen and his wife Maxine and grandfather to Luka and Georgia.
A funeral service will be held at 10am on Tuesday, March 20, at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Oswaldtwistle, administered by Father John Daly, followed by cremation at 11.40am at Accrington Crematorium.
Family flowers only please, however donations, if desired, requested for Macular Society and Guide Dogs for the Blind.

ANTHONY HYLAND
MR Anthony Hyland, of Kirk House, Accrington, formerly of Sprucewood Close, Accrington, passed away at the Royal Blackburn Hospital on Thursday, March 8, aged 77.
Born in Clayton-leMoors, Anthony attended St Mary’s infant and primary school, then went onto St Mary’s College, Blackburn.
He entered into local government at Rishton and after moving to Wisbech for two years he returned home to Lancashire and worked for Lancashire County Council, based at Fulwood, Preston as a civil engineer until taking early retirement in 1995, due to ill health.
Anthony was proud of his Open University Degree and of being a chartered member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
He loved gardening and was a member of the Bury Metro Marine Modelling based at Clarence Park, Bury, where he used to sail his boats.
Anthony will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
Anthony was the eldest son of the late William and Adelene Hyland and leaves his brothers Roy and William along with sisters-in-law Ann and Joan. A much-loved uncle to John, Denise, Louise, Andrew and Michael, he was a treasured greatuncle to Chloe and Oliver.
The funeral service will be held at 10.15am on Friday, March 23, with a Requiem Mass at St Anne’s Church, Accrington, followed by a cremation at 11.40am at Accrington Crematorium.

HAROLD PLATT
MR Harold Platt, of Waddington Road, Accrington, passed away on Monday, March 5, at The Hollies Nursing Home, Clayton-le-Moors, aged 93.
Harold was managing director of M.A. Platt Ltd, formerly of St James Street, Accrington, and established in 1908. The company manufactured a range of occasional furniture which was distributed nationally to independent retailers and stores. He also at one time had a furniture shop in Accrington with his brother Norman.
He was a member of a caravan club and former member of the Hyndburn Local History Society.
He enjoyed caravanning, photography, gardening, ballroom dancing and model boats.
He was the much-loved husband of the late Audrey, loving father of Nigel and Judith, father-inlaw of Elizabeth, and a much-missed grandad and great-grandad.
A funeral service will be held at 10am on Monday, March 26, at St James Church, Accrington, administered by Rev. Ian Enticott, followed by burial at Accrington Cemetery at 11am.

ZACHARY LOWENS
ZACH Lowens BSC MSC, of Sutton Manor, St Helens, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Whiston Hospital on Sunday, March 4, aged 38.
A Woodnook child of the 80s, young Zach grew up in Accrington surrounded by friends, his black Labrador Rosco and music. He attended Woodnook Primary School before moving up to Hollins High School.
He later enrolled onto a Land Management course at Burnley college and then progressed into further education at Manchester Metropolitan University where he went on to accomplish a 2.1 Bsc and a Masters in Environmental Science. He later put these great credentials to good use working as an Environmental Consultant.
Blessed by the arrival of his beloved daughter Lauren, Zach developed a deep sense of responsibility for the world and enjoyed a happy family life with his partner Kirsty and her two sons. He also loved walking the dog, going to the gym, films and astronomy, as well as fights between ‘pop and techno’ and riotous football banter.
He sadly leaves his dearly-loved mother Gillian and his muchloved siblings Luke, Alec and Lorna, his daughter Lauren, his loving partner Kirsty, her two sons Ben and Kieran and many friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3pm, on Monday, March 19, at Accrington Crematorium.
