Scuffles break out after latest away win
TROUBLE flared as Stanley fans returned to their transport after the Reds’ win at Mansfield Town on Good Friday.
Stewards and later police intervened after scuffles broke out.
Stanley supporters’ club chairman Peter Leatham said he had just boarded the coach when he saw a group of people with black scarves over their faces .
He said: “It was very intimidating. They might not even have been supporters, none of them were wearing Mansfield colours.
“Where Stanley are in the league seems to have brought out this behaviour. We had 500 fans there which is much more than normal and this unsavoury element may see that as more of a target. The overwhelming majority of Stanley fans want to just watch the game.”
A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: “We are investigating following a disturbance between two sets of supporters following Mansfield Town Football Club’s match against Accrington Stanley.
“Officers responding to the disturbance arrested and subsequently de-arrested one man in connection with the incident. No further arrests have been made in connection with the incident, although officers are investigating to understand the circumstances.”
