Club boss speaks to students on success

-

ACCRINGTON Stanley owner Andy Holt visited students to open up about his career and overcoming hurdles to succeed.

The Reds chairman spoke to Accrington and Rossendale College pupils about his life from growing up on a council estate to running a multi-million pound company.

Mr Holt said he ‘wasn’t the best at school’ and had to overcome tragedy at the age of 16 when his father passed away.

The What More UK founder said he was ‘really lucky’ to find an apprenticeship and go to college and helped him develop the skills to start his first business at the age of 24.

He said: “My advice to all young people is to not give up. I went through so many failings before finding something that worked and I wouldn’t change any of them.

“Each failure is a learning experience; nothing is ever successful on the first try. I didn’t find success until my 40s.”

Charlotte Scheffmann, college assistant principal, said: “I would like to thank Andy Holt for coming to the college. It was inspiring for everyone in the audience, reminding us all of the vital work the community trust is doing in the borough and the importance of educating our young people.”
