Reds among Euro elite

-

ASK most football fans to name the top performing teams in Europe and they will more than likely reel off the usual suspects – Barcelona, Paris Saint Germain, Juventus, Bayern.

It may only be Reds supporters who would chuck Accrington Stanley into the mix – but they’d be spot on to do so!

According to the cold, hard stats of the European form table, you’d be completely justified if you did rate the League Two leaders in the same bracket as some of football’s greatest superpowers.

Over their past 15 matches, Stanley have picked up 40 out of a possible 45 points, a record bettered only by French champions elect PSG, and last year’s Champions League finalists Juve.

Accrington haven’t lost since January 27th, a run 11 matches, and prior to that 2-1 defeat against Crawley Town, hadn’t lost since Boxing Day.

It’s a run that has seen them establish a three point lead at the top of League Two, with two games in hand on nearest rivals Luton Town.

Their form is so impressive it eclipses the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and even runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City. Pep’s men have picked up 38 points over the same amount of games by comparison.

Stanley’s achievements are made all the more impressive by the fact that they operate on the joint smallest budget in League Two. Maybe it’s down to those post-match burgers on the chairman!
