Stanley get set to go all the way

- SHELDAN KEAY

ACCRINGTON Stanley manager John Coleman insists he isn’t getting ahead of himself despite his side having the opportunity to earn promotion this weekend.

The Reds welcome Exeter City to the Wham Stadium this weekend, knowing that a victory will secure themselves a place in League On next season.

Despite that incentive, Coleman says his side are not over-confident and are determined not to celebrate until everything is done and dusted.

“We are not getting ahead of ourselves, there is a massive month ahead, but these players have the chance to make history, to do something special, which will be talked about for years to come,” he told the club’s official website.

“I don’t quite believe that we have won so many games in such a short space of time.

“I always believe we can win every game we play and that we would be in the top ranks of the league but it has been a fantastic run.

“We have been working hard to trying to achieve promotion but we haven’t achieved anything yet.

“We are streetwise, we are learning how to see games out. That’s not really pleasing for me as I would like us to score more goals to make games easier but I will take 1-0s. If you win the majority of your games 1-0, you win the league!”

“It feels good to be close but it’s no good being close if you don’t go all the way and get where you want to go.

“There’s still a lot of hard work to be done, but the players are relishing the task. I wouldn’t want any different squad to the one I’ve got now.

“The players have got the bit between their teeth and they’re very determined, they’re finding a way to win and you need a little bit of luck along the way.

“Sometimes you can make your own luck, but if you work hard and play the game in the opposition’s half, you’ve got a chance of winning.”

Along with the chance to earn promotion, Stanley may also have revenge on their minds against Exeter this weekend, as they suffered a defeat against them when the two teams met in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

The Reds suffered a 2-0 away loss to Exeter back in November, with Hiram Boateng and Pierce Sweeney getting the goals at St James Park that condemned Stanley to defeat.
