Loco was crafted out of matches
A SHERRY morning is featured in Looking Back this week.
Around 50 people attended the event in the 1970s at the Cemetery Hotel in Accrington, top left and raised £40 for Huncoat playgroup funds.
The picture – taken by Garth Dawson – shows Mrs N Feathers, Mrs S Wolsteholme, Mrs J Culshaw, Caroline Wilkinson, Mrs E Ainsworth, Mrs A Balderstone, Mrs V Greenhalgh and Mrs R Grant.
Top right, Great Harwood Ladies’ Hockey Club were pictured during their training night at Hyndburn Sports Centre.
They were preparing for their new season in the Lancashire Central Ladies’ Hockey League.
Above right, a party of “Observer” readers decided to take an extended weekend away from the rain and travelled to sunny Benidorm in Spain by coach.
And Rishton Carnival Queen Gillian Gardner, 11, performed one of her official duties when she presented donations from the proceeds of the carnival to local organisations.
She was photographed, above left, handing over a cheque to Miss S Seager, superintendent of the St John Ambulance Brigade in Rishton.
David Price was pictured in action, right, at the Northern Counties Junior Target Championships at the Woodlands.
The 15-year-old from Great Harwood was a pupil at St Christopher’s High School in Accrington.
Our final picture this week shows steam locomotive enthusiast Kenneth Taylor from Clayton-le-Moors, below, who built a four-foot long loco entirely from matches.
