WHAT you’ve been saying on our Facebook page:

TWO schools in uniform policy crackdown (Headteacher issues boys’ ponytails ‘clarification’ after backlash’, website, June 7 and Observer June 8): Corinne Riley: There is nothing wrong in setting the benchmark. Teaching children to have pride in their appearance and looking smart is absolutely the right thing to do. As for taking their individuality away this is not the case they have time to express themselves out of school. Charlotte Young: Unfortunately most people’s working life will require uniform/standards, they’ll have to get used to it. Louise Scholes: I believe uniform is appropriate, for smartness, for safety, and to get them used to future life of course but I don’t agree with their hairstyles being an issue. It doesn’t stop anyone learning having a ponytail Daniel Houlding: It’s the same standards you find in any secondary school. So why not adhere to these rules and make your child look presentable. It also helps people who are contemplating to take their child to these primary schools by appearance. What’s wrong with looking smart. Jo Rigby: Are hair styles in primary school a demonstration of the child’s freedom of expression or the parents’? Vera Walker: What happened to the standards we used to have. The headteacher is obviously trying to instil them and there is nothing wrong with that.

QUEEN’S Award for Voluntary Service for the Accy Rockers (‘Rockers get the Queen’s award’, June 8) Paul Chadwick: A great achievement. I know original members since passed away would be very proud of this honour. Christine Rawcliffe: Congratulations to the Rockers well done to all of you Graham Holmes: Well done you deserve it Janet Whittaker: Brilliant well done!

EXTRA staff drafted in as council bids to beat bin ‘bewilderment’ (‘Don’t panic!, June 8) Amanda Britland: On a plus side I won’t have to deal with the slugs all over the bags Barbara Barbi Whittaker: Stop with the whining, we recycle,to keep our world beautiful and for future generations to enjoy...also the new bins will keep our own streets litter free. As for the planner for the recycle days, what’s so complicated? Tape the colour coded planner to the inside of a kitchen cupboard and check it once a week Hannah Clay: Not impressed that they are to be emptied every four weeks alternately. I was led to believe that there wouldn’t be any change with the arrival of the new wheelie bins. However looking forward to returning the bags and box at the next recycle collection. The bins are much better. Karen Allan: Just not sure the paper one will be big enough for a month’s waste but you can order another one. I think it’s a great idea. Not more recycling flying around on windy days Rebecca Ann: I live in a terraced house with a small back yard. I’ve made the yard so it’s my kids and mine outside space. These bins take over and there’s no space left. Mine will be living on the back alley Jamie Fullalove: Why are they only collecting recycling monthly? I thought the point was to increase the amount we recycle but those bins will be full in two weeks! Leah Lyons: Got ours today. I think they’re brill as my dog used to always get in the recycling as she’s likes bottles and my recycling would be all over the garden now she can’t get them Jessica Hogg: Haven’t got mine yet but I’m sick of seeing people moaning about them! I think having bins is a really good idea. Gets rid of those flimsy sacks. It’s been needed for a while. Heather Ellis: I now leave most card and plastic from goods bought, at the store where I buy them. I love the new bins, and have fun squashing boxes to go in, by jumping on them. Samantha Dawson: Yes got them today and they didn’t take away the old bags and box after emptying like I was led to believe. Helen Cancelliere Sowerbutts: Good idea but my back yard isn’t big enough to store three bins! Joanne Wife-Zilla Webber: They are big and it’s not confusing at all Jill Laing: Much better than the bags. A definite improvement and cleaner streets, fingers crossed. Steven Lee Hacking: Crackpot of an idea. 1 million pounds down the drain. Where is someone living in a terraced house with a small back yard going to store them all. Barb Daly Green: We have 10 steps going up to our bungalow, just have to see how we get on.

GREAT Harwood man Robert Worden dies after minibus collision (Tributes to cyclist who died after crash, June 15) Laura Isherwood: Rest in peace, Robert. My thoughts are with your family and friends Steven Lee Hacking: Rest in peace. Thoughts with the family and friends Sue Alston: Such a shame Athene Gallagher: RIP. Thinking of your family Jo Reeves: Awww RIP, sounded like a lovely soul Heather Anne Bradley: RIP - thoughts go out to his family. Lynette Macro Collier: Sorry for your loss
