JEAN GRIGGS

MRS Jean Griggs, of Warwick Avenue, Accrington, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, aged 91 years.

She was a state registered nurse and trained and worked at Burnley Victoria Hospital, also working a spell as an industrial nurse at Ewbank. She worked as a staff nurse in the Casualty department at Accrington Victoria Hospital prior to retirement.

When she retired she loved gardening with her husband on their allotment and in her later years enjoyed watching TV, puzzle books and puzzles on her Nintendo.

Wife of the late William – Bill – Griggs, she leaves three children Frank, Kenneth and Robert, daughters-in-law Christine, Barbara and Jean, together with grandchild­ren Steven, David, Elizabeth, Geoffrey and Anne and greatgrand­childen and great-great grandchild­ren.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, June 22, at Accrington Crematoriu­m, administer­ed by David Ireland.

Family flowers only please, however donations, if desired, requested to Cancer Research UK.

JOHN PHILIP ASHTON

on Saturday, June 9, aged 75.

He was a self-employed motor mechanic at Ellison Fold Garage.

A keen darts and dominoes player, he was also an avid Blackburn Rovers’ supporter.

In his younger days he played cricket and football, and enjoyed holidays in La Manga, Spain. John especially loved spending time with his grandchild­ren.

Beloved son of the late George and Beulah, he leaves daughters Andrea and Deborah, Son-in-law Billy, grandson Daniel and granddaugh­ter Tia. He was brother to the late Eileen, Marie and Jean and brother-in-law to the late Jack, Uncle to the late Susan, Steven, Paul, Simon, Ken, Sarah, Philip, Susan and Edward.

A funeral service took place on Friday, June 15, at Burnley Crematoriu­m, administer­ed by Angela Riding.

Donations, if desired, requested for East Lancs Hospice. Funeral directors: Peter Regan, Hyndburn Funeral Services.

GERDA ROBERTSHAW

She was married to Joe for 60 years and they shared many happy times together enjoying holidays back to visit the family in Germany and also many trips to Europe including Spain and Bulgaria.

In her younger years she enjoyed dancing and bingo and loved having friends and family round for coffee, cake and chat.

Wife of the late Joe and Mother of the late Gordon, Gerda leaves many friends and several Nephews, Nieces and In-Laws along with family in Germany.

A Celebratio­n of Gerda’s life will take place at 12.20pm, on Tuesday, June 26, at Accrington Crematoriu­m, followed by cremation.

No flowers please, however donations, if desired, requested to the Salvation Army or Accrington Victoria Hospital, c/o Hyndburn Funeral Services.
