ACCRINGTON’S £2 million town square floods following heavy rain (‘Accrington or Venice? Council bosses respond to £2m ‘Lake Accrington’ jibes’, June 22) Casee Malakian Leigh: Would have thought it would have washed the skidmarks off but obviously not. Kelly Molloy: That’s karma for chopping down the trees outside the market place. Joanne Dean: I loved those trees, especially in autumn when the conkers were falling! Karl Spaans: Could have spent it on fixing the pot holes around the town Heath Jepson: I thought ‘Hyndburn Marina’ was a better name? Joanne Gregory: Much prefer how it used to be with the trees and planters, looks awful now Mike Jduk: This isn’t a normal construction site, it is a public right of way at the heart of our town. On any construction site, drainage is the first priority! And what do we have here, ONE DRAIN to accommodate any future downpours for the entire square? The obvious fact is, the slabs haven’t been laid in a way that that will carry any rain water away! Justin Grant: The very fact that the drains are there and not working means they’re blocked. It won’t take long to unblock them and I’m sure it’ll be fine after that. Joe Margerison Curtis: Looks like an improvement! The square looks absolutely lifeless and a waste of money. Heather Anne Bradley: Bring back cobbles that way the rain has somewhere to go. Kimberley Whitehead: Most places flooded with the downpour. So much negativity.

CAMPAIGNERS paid tribute to supporters of Accrington’s walk-in centre as doors shut for good (‘Support praised as centre due to close’, June 15). James Cheverton: Just been down to the “end of the last shift” protest/ thank you to staff. Proud of Accrington and East Lancs, particularly those who organised the campaign against closure. Everyone came together to fight a good campaign. But I am sad that the blinkered health leaders ignored how vital this service is for all sections of our community (apart from the few rich whom can afford private health care!). Will have to see how the GP practice led solution works out. The health bosses cannot say they have not been warned of our concerns. Gillian Parkinson: Disgraceful.
