Thousands enjoy sun-soaked events
THOUSANDS of people basked in glorious sunshine as they enjoyed two popular summer events.
The Roar in the Gore was hailed the ‘best ever’ by organisers after recordbreaking numbers attended the biennial community event.
More than 2,000 people packed into Bullough Park in Accrington on Sunday, July 1, with families and children enjoying a large number of attractions and football matches.
John Drinkwater, from organisers the Ferngore Residents Association, said: “We have been doing it for 12 years and this one was the best ever.
“It went absolutely bril- liantly and it was a roasting hot day.
“We normally get around 1,500 people but there was a lot more than that.
“People were there all day and the hot dog and ice cream stalls had massive queues.”
Nearly 1,000 people also attended the historic Stanhill Village Fete on Saturday, June 30, and helped raise money for good causes and future events.
Richard Hooper, from the Stanhill Village Fete committee, said they were pleased with the turnout.
He said: “It was the expected attendance. We didn’t break last year’s record but we had nearly 1,000 people of which at least half were children.
“We will be looking at how much we have raised in the near future and decide on which local charities and good causes to donate to.
“It brings the whole of the community together and it helps support our Christmas activities which include the pensioners party and the event where 300 people sing around the tree.”
