Coach trip to coast

STAFF from Woolworths and Relay Vision took part in a tradesman’s holiday outing.

The picture, top left, was taken in the 1960s by Garth Dawson and was the first time the staff from both firms had united for the trip.

The party is shown before travelling by coach to Cleveleys and Blackpool.

Children from Peel Park County Primary School triumphed in a cycle rally organised by the Lancashire County Police and NE Lancs Road Safety Committee, above. They were tested on their Highway Code knowledge, with Christophe­r Earnshaw, 14, winning the senior section and David English, 10, winning the junior section.

Members of St John’s Church in Baxenden gave a warm welcome to former stalwarts Mr and Mrs A I Heap who were the chairman and opener for the Spring Fayre, top right.

They were pictured with Leslie Watts, age six, Mrs D Duckett, Mrs P Wise and Mrs M Marsland.

For the first time in the history of the 2nd St Peter’s Guide Company one of its members received a Queen’s Badge, centre right.

Linda Pountain, 16, from Accrington, was presented with the badge at St Peter’s School by county commission­er Mrs A Carter JP and was watched proudly by her captain Mrs E Hindle and Accrington divisional commission­er Miss P Kenyon.

Accrington Girls High School pupils worked very hard in the 1960s to provide money to buy a guide dog for the blind, right.

They handed over £80 to Captain A H Finney of the Guide Dogs for the Blind Associatio­n.
