PATRICIA Anne Joinson, known as Pat, of Moss Hall Road, Accrington, died peacefully at home, on Sunday, July 1, aged 74.

Born and raised in Clayton-le-Moors, she left school at 15 and started work in the offices of Allspeeds Ltd.

When the children were of school age, Pat joined Clayton Laundry in customer services and was lastly employed at Ashworth’s Products as an accounts/wages clerk until retirement.

Pat regularly attended Sacred Heart Church and then St Joseph’s.

As a young girl, she owned a horse and loved to go riding.

She was a great animal lover who owned four bearded collie dogs over a period of 45 years and walked them regularly up the Coppice, making many dog walking friends along the way.

Pat also took great pride in her garden.

She was a very active and sociable person, who loved ballroom and disco dancing and would spend time to have a chat with anyone.

She enjoyed caravannin­g holidays abroad in France, Spain and especially Italy over many years.

She leaves her husband of 55 years Peter, sons Julian and Kelvin and daughter-in-law Adele, brother-in-law Clifford, sister-in-law Joey, nephew Robert and niece Carolynne.

Requiem mass, conducted by Father Stamp, will be held at 10am on Friday, July 13, at St Joseph’s Church, Accrington. This will be followed by a family-only burial service at 11.30am at Dill Hall Cemetery.

Flowers are welcome and optional donations to either Alzheimers Society or RSPCA.

Funeral directors: Peter Regan, Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queens Road, Accrington. MRS Ann Stewart, of Medina Close, Accrington, died on Wednesday, June 27, aged 57.

Ann Worked on Accrington Market several years ago then managed Home Bargains for numerous years.

She finished her working life as a domestic at Stonyhurst College, which she loved.

Ann loved holidays - especially to Turkey.

She loved to shop and was always the first on the dance floor at family parties.

Ann adored all of her grandchild­ren and spending time with them.

She leaves her daughters Leonne and Kirsty and was mother-inlaw to Wayne, Grandma to Coby, Lexi, Abi and Esmee Sorella, sister to Julie and best friend to Kathleen.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 17, at 1pm, at Accrington Crematoriu­m Chapel, followed by an interment at Accrington Cemetery.

Open to flowers. Donations to East Lancashire Hospice.

OLIVE GLASSON

OLIVE Glasson nee Palmer died peacefully on Sunday, July 8, in Blackburn Royal Hospital, aged 98.

For the last two years she had been a resident of Beech Grove Care Home in Clitheroe, following the death of Jack, her husband of 72 years.

She was one of seven children, was talented in many arts and crafts skills, but her main passion was her family.

She was mother to John and Pamela, mother-inlaw to Carol and Martin, grandmothe­r to Rebecca and Claire, and greatgrand­mother to Sam, Katie, Toby and Pippa.

She was a lifelong member of St Paul’s Church, Accrington, and of its Mothers’ Union and she contribute­d much to church activities.

She had a love of reading which she passed on to her children.

With her husband and family, she enjoyed travelling locally and as far afield as Australia and the USA.

There were many activities with the extended family of Accrington relatives, who had great times together.

She will be sadly missed by all.

Olive’s funeral will be at Accrington Crematoriu­m on Monday, July 23, at 11am.

The service will be conducted by Eric Booth.

DOROTHY ANN AINSCOW

MRS Dorothy Ann Ainscow, of Addison Court, Addison Street, Accrington, died at home on Friday, June 22, aged 84.

She worked voluntaril­y for the creches and with youngsters at the churches she attended.

She attended St Paul’s and prior to that at Cannon Street Baptist Church. She also sang in the choirs.

She enjoyed sewing and needlecraf­ts but her family was her life.

She leaves her husband Kenneth, daughter Alyson and sons John and Barry.

The funeral service, conducted by Mr Hugh Scriven, will be held on Monday, July 16, at St John’s, Accrington, at 10.15am, followed by her cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m at 11am.

No flowers but donations to East Lancashire Hospice.

GORDON GOLDSWORTH­Y LONG

MR Gordon Goldsworth­y Long, of Lupin Close, Accrington, died peacefully in hospital on Wednesday, June 27, aged 84 with his devoted daughter Wendy by his side.

Gordon was the beloved husband of Brenda, much loved and devoted father of Wendy. A dear brother, brother in law, uncle, great uncle and friend to many.

Gordon spent most of his life working as a Maintenanc­e Fitter at Hambledon Mill and latterly Express Gifts, both in Accrington.

He was a true family man, totally devoted to his wife Brenda of 59 years.

In the fifties and early sixties he loved his motorbikes and had a collection of six over the years.

He was present on the opening day of the Preston bypass, which is now the M6, being one of the first through once the ribbon was cut. His love of music continued throughout his life. His other passion was his garden, where he spent many happy hours looking at his flowers.

Gordon’s funeral service was held at Accrington Crematoriu­m on Monday, July 9.
