GALLERY CORNER The Show Goes On
YVONNE ROBINS
HAWORTH Art Gallery is building on the success of its 2017 exhibition ‘Amazing Accrington’ with ‘The Show Goes On’!
This time the exhibition features the work of Haworth Artist Network members who have been inspired and influenced by Accrington and its surrounding townships and countryside.
The work on display covers a wide range of subjects from the joy of Accrington Stanley’s promotion into League 1 and the beauty of our world-famous Tiffany glass collection, to the majestic scenery that surrounds the area and the cotton industry that built the town.
In addition to this fabulous new work, we are also delighted to display some ‘Old Favourites’ from the galleries’ collections, including watercolours produced by students at Accrington Art School in the 1930s and ‘Accrington from the Coppice’ by John Virtue. We shall also be displaying a bronze sculpture of A H Aitken, town clerk of Accrington 1885-1926, created by his daughter, sculptress Pauline Atkin.
The exhibition opened on Saturday, July 21 and runs until Sunday, September 23.
As well as this fabulous exhibition, the gallery continues its very popular free Sunday afternoon concerts with ‘Jam Tomorrow’ who will be appearing at the gallery on August 5, at 2pm.
This duo play a variety of familiar songs from Heard It through the Grapevine to Satisfaction – be early to secure your seat.
The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday noon to 4.45pm, Saturday, Sunday noon to 4.15pm, closed all day Monday with free entrance and parking.
