Festivities by candlelight

-

MEMORIES of the three-day week were revived at Rishton Golf Club as members and guests began their annual festivities by candlelight as they were plunged into darkness.

A blown fuse delayed the dinner in 1974 by an hour but candles were brought to throw some light on the situation.

Our first picture (above) shows (from the left) Mr and Mrs Catlow, Mr and Mrs Laycock, Mr and Mrs Newell, Lady President Miss Chambers, Mr Birtwistle and the Mayor and Mayoress of Hyndburn.

The golf club also celebrated the extensions to their clubhouse in our second picture (immediately below the first). Captain Mr Reece officially opened the building and lady captain Mrs Cooper unveiled an inscribed shield.

The photograph shows Mrs Chambers, Mrs McNeil, Mrs Cooper, Coun Mackenzie, Mrs Mackenzie, Mr Reece and Mr Smith.

Accrington and District Works Welfare Sports Association held their winter sports presentation in the Castle Hotel in Accrington.

Our next picture (right) shows The Lupton Bros ‘B’ team which included S Dickinson, E McDonald, A Winters, G Peel, J Catlow, R Brown and J Lingard.

The Rothwell ‘A’ team (bottom right) included R Tomlinson, R Beckett, A Sentence, J Smith, J Duxbury, W Wilson and A Spencer.

Our final photograph this week (bottom left) shows Mr Bottomley, a manager at Howard and Bullough’s, presenting a watch to Mr F Ashworth at the Globe Club to mark his retirement after 51 years with the firm.
