Time is running out to nominate sporting stars

NOMINATION­S close soon for the annual Hyndburn Community Sports Awards.

Excitement is growing for this year’s awards in October at Accrington Town Hall, with Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards already confirmed as special guest speaker.

Express Gifts/Studio has signed up as the headline sponsor, and managing director Paul Kendrick said they are delighted to be involved.

He said: “It’s a celebratio­n of everything the community has to offer and is set to be a fantastic evening. Our base is here in Accrington and we are always aiming to support the local and wider community.”

Victoria Austin, Baxenden Cricket Club under-9s coach, was last year’s Coach of the Year.

She was instrument­al in growing the team, more than doubling its membership and has nurtured players through progressio­n to county level as well as mentoring other coaches at the club.

Anne Elwood, sports awards ambassador, said: “There are hundreds of local people out there who are just like Vicki and deserve some recognitio­n for their contributi­on to sport.”

Lyndsey Sims, chief executive of Hyndburn Leisure, thanked Express Gifts/Studio for their ‘fantastic contributi­on’. She added: “They join some great local businesses have already signed up to sponsor individual awards including Langtec, Pilkington­s, Forbes Solicitors, Master Ground Services, Accrington and Rossendale College, Technogym, Cardboard Box Company, Fell & Mountain, Victoria Glass, Scott Dawson Advertisin­g and the Accrington Observer.”
