MR Kevin Moore died peacefully at his home following a short illness, on Tuesday, August 7, aged 65.

The dear son of the late David and Mary, he was dear brother of Colin and brother-in-law of Elaine, cherished uncle of David, Daniel and Lauren.

Kevin also leaves his close friends.

Kevin started his working life at Threlfalls Scrap Metal and was a plant machine driver all his working life. It was a job that he loved and he was known to be a workaholic. When not working he spent his time visiting his friends and family for a catch up and enjoyed running errands for others.

He was a well-known local character who lived all his life in the same home in Altham.

Kevin’s funeral service will be held on Friday, August 17, St James’ Church, Altham at 11am, followed by interment in the churchyard.

MRS Doreen Wade, of Sandy Lane, Accrington, died on Saturday, August 4, at Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 96.

In her lifetime, Doreen was a domestic servant, a Lance Corporal in ATS, a waitress and a housewife.

She attended St James’ church for many years and was a sequence dancer. She was also part of the town hall tea dance.

In her spare time she enjoyed ballroom dancing.

Wife of the late Kenneth, she was much loved mother of Teena and Keith, and a devoted mother of Michael, mother-in-law to Brian and Avril, loving grandma to Paul, Simon, Adam, Rebecca, Oliver and Alicia and great-grandma of Madison, Dakota and Jonathan.

The funeral will take place on Friday, August 17 at 11.30am at St James’ Church, Accrington, conducted by the minister Rev Ian Endicott, followed by cremation.

DOROTHY BOWMAN

DOROTHY Bowman, of Moss Hall Road, Accrington passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 5, aged 92.

Dorothy was a keen ballroom dancer all her life and will be remembered by many who attended Platts Social Club, Poplar Working Men’s Club and Accrington Conservati­ve Club. For many years, along with her late husband Tommy, she organised bingo, whist drives and other social events at West End Community Centre, Oswaldtwis­tle.

Dorothy worked at Nuttalls Dress Shop, Hopwoods Fancy Goods, Browns Overalls and Marks and Spencers, being one of the first employees at the Accrington store. She also worked at Rists Wires and Cables.

Devoted wife of the late Tommy for 40 years, she was mother of three children, Colin, Gary and Janette.

She was also a very much loved mother-inlaw of Maddalena, Brian and Diane, beloved grandmothe­r to Nikola, Paul, Lewis, Lauren, Debbie, Eleanor, Charmaine and Canel and a great-grandma to Ruby, Leilanii and Leandro.

Daughter of the late Adeline and Alfred Howarth, she was also a very dear sister to Rena and Jack and the late Fred and Madge, and Ivy.

The funeral will be held on Friday, August 24 at 11.15am, at Ernest Street Baptist Church, followed by a committal 12.20pm at Accrington Crematoriu­m.

DAVID HARGREAVES

MR David ‘Haggis’ Hargreaves died on Monday, August 6, a short time after being diagnosed with cancer, aged 63.

He was the son of the late Joe and Joan and grew up in Accrington, living initially on Dill Hall Lane and later Tremellen Street.

He attended St Mary’s Primary School in Oswaldtwis­tle and then St Mary’s College, Blackburn.

On leaving school, he attended Myerscough College where he studied horticultu­re and worked for Hyndburn Council’s parks and cemeteries department for many years before moving into finance and property management.

David had a life-long passion for football for which he is best known, but he also liked cricket, darts and rugby league. He held a season ticket for Wigan Warriors.

In 1974 he joined Accrington Stanley and holds the record for scoring the most goals in one season - 56 in 44 games.

By 1984 he had scored 300 goals in 300 games and when he left the club he had scored a record 309 goals in total from 322 games between 1974 and 1985.

At one point in 1977 he transferre­d to Blackburn Rovers where he spent two seasons but was blighted by injury and when a new manager came in he went back to Stanley where he was the first player to be honoured with a testimonia­l year in 1984.

Over the years he has been involved with many local football clubs in the capacity of player, manager, secretary, chairman and groundsman and has also been an active member of Accrington Cricket Club.

His family consists of sons Paul, Lee, Morgan and Bryn, their partners Debbie, Lucy and Jodie, grandson Davis and siblings Eileen, Jean, Jim and Stella.

The funeral will take place on Thursday, August 23, leaving from Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queens Road, Accrington at 9.45am, for Requiem Mass officiated by Fr Quigley at 10am in St Anne’s RC Church, Cobham Road, Accrington.

Cremation will take place at 11am in Accrington Crematoriu­m, Burnley Road followed at 12.15pm by a gathering at The Accrington Stanley Club House, Livingston­e Road, Accrington.

Everybody is invited to join the family to remember and celebrate David’s life and achievemen­ts.

RONALD BELL

MR Ronald John Bell, of Ribblesdal­e Avenue, Accrington, died on Monday, August 6, aged 87.

Ronnie, as he was known, was a mechanic by trade and worked for Cowie and Riding up to his retirement.

After he retired he loved to spend time gardening and travelling with his late wife, Catherine Bell.

Husband of the late Catherine, he was a much loved father, grandfathe­r, great-grandfathe­r, brother and uncle.

The funeral will take place on Friday, August 17, at 11am, at Accrington Crematoriu­m, officiated by the minister Dereck Brindle.

Funeral director: Peter Regan, Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queens Road, Accrington. MR Thomas Edward Braithwait­e, of Great Harwood, died peacefully following a long illness on Sunday, August 12, aged 84.

Dearly beloved husband of Joan, Eddie, as he was known, was much loved dad of Karen and Paul, dear father-in-law of Paul and Deborah, loving grandad of Simon, Rachael, Amy and Thomas, great-grandad of Isabelle and Matilda, loved brother of Barbara and the late Jack and a loving uncle to many.

Eddie began his working life on the family small holding, loving his work outdoors, taking time out for his National Service with the Army based in Preston and Trieste, Italy.

Returning home to the farm, Eddie also had a milk round in Blackburn for 20 years.

He could turn his hand to anything and loved to be on the go, always looking for the next thing - car cleaning, gardening, selling ice cream, office cleaning and he also became a self employed fencing contractor. He was still working, putting up fences at the age of 79. He was dynamic and had the energy of ten men.

Eddie had been an avid supporter of Preston North End and also enjoyed watching snooker on TV. He religiousl­y watched the news each day and liked to keep abreast of what was happening in the world.

He was a laid back, gentle man and is much loved by all his family.

A service to celebrate the life of Eddie will take place, followed by cremation, at Accrington A KIND, cat loving, peaceful and strongwill­ed rebel.

Tina Cain, of Claytonle-Moors, died suddenly at her home following a short illness bravely borne, on Friday, August 10, aged 64.

The dearly loved sister of Paul, Peter and Bonnie, she was dear sister-in-law of Judi, Lynne and Stuart. Tina also leaves other relatives and many excellent friends.

Tina moved to Hyndburn over 20 years ago having retired from her bus driver job due to ill health.

She made many good friends in the area and helped form and run a local craft group on Sparth Road, Clayton, where she became a well known and popular lady.

A devoted cat lover who would always take in any strays that needed a home, Tina loved her home and garden. She made her own little oasis at her home in Clayton.

Tina’s funeral service and cremation will take place on Wednesday, August 22, at Accrington Crematoriu­m, at 3pm.

No flowers by request, donations are being received in Tina’s memory on behalf of Moggies Cat Rescue and Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary c/o funeral director Champ Funeral Services, Bank House, Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors.
