CARABAO CUP FIRST ROUND SHELDAN KEAY

ACCRINGTON Stanley were knocked out of the first round of the Carabao Cup after suffering an emphatic defeat away from home against Mansfield Town.

Tyler Walker scored a hat-trick for the hosts to inspire them to victory at the One Call Stadium.

Stanley opened the scoring, as Sam Finley netted for the Reds after just six minutes.

Mansfield were given an opportunity to level things up just a few minutes later when goalkeeper Jonny Maxted brought down Walker in the box, with the striker successfully taking the spot-kick himself to make it 1-1.

The home side were then awarded another penalty after an alleged foul by Scott Brown, with Walker again on hand to fire it into the back of the net.

It went from bad to worse for Accrington, as by the 16th minute, Mansfield had scored a third. Otis Khan was the man to find the goal on this occasion, getting on the end of a pass from Calum Butcher before smashing past Maxted to increase his team’s lead.

Coleman’s men were hoping to put a frustrating half behind them as the interval approached, but Walker managed to complete his hat-trick in first half stoppage time. Khan’s low cross was turned home by the striker to make it 4-1 at the end of the opening 45 minutes.

The second half wasn’t as actionpacked, but Mansfield still added to their tally. Danny Rose got the fifth goal of the evening just after the hour mark, before CJ Hamilton compounded Accrington’s misery when he got the sixth goal right at the death.
