Boss’s cash pledge
ACCRINGTON Stanley manager John Coleman says the money they have received for players over the summer will be spent on improving the club’s facilities - rather than on new players.
Kayden Jackson made history when he became Stanley’s first ever player to be sold for over one million pounds when he signed for Championship side Ipswich Town on transfer deadline day, while Janoi Donacien also left for Ipswich for big money the week prior.
Coleman was obviously disappointed to see the duo leave, but says that the priority is to now reinvest the money into the club’s infrastructure.
“The money that we’ve got in will be spent on changing rooms, offices at the club and a training ground. It won’t be spent on players and nor should it be,” he told the club’s official website.
“Kayden had a terrific season last season, he’s had a really, really good preseason too, that’s probably the reason why his value has increased.
“The most pleasing aspect of the whole thing, if there can be a pleasing aspect, is that we’ve finally shaken off the tag of being a bargain-basement club. Now if someone wants a striker from us the starting point becomes a million pounds. We were getting told six weeks ago that no one would pay that, but they do because we’ve got good players and we’re a good club and we bring players on.
“Players will prosper coming to Accrington and they will improve, and improve in value.”
