AWOMAN who stabbed her partner in the back leaving him with ‘life threatening injuries’ has been jailed for two years.

Leanne Duckworth, 29, of York Street, Accrington, was sent to prison after pleading guilty to wounding Dean Evans.

Preston Crown Court heard prosecuting barrister Peter Barr say that the offence happened at a gathering of friends in Accrington on April 25 this year where ‘a lot of drink had been consumed’.

He said: “Miss Duckworth challenged her partner about the attention he was giving to another woman and alleged he was having an affair. She went to the kitchen area of the house and came back with a six inch black-handled kitchen knife.

“Half the length of the knife was the handle so it had a three-inch blade with which she stabbed him below the shoulder.”

Mr Barr told the court that the knife was embed- ded in Mr Evans’ back but there was ‘little or no blood’.

Someone at the gathering called for an ambulance but Duckworth then called and cancelled it. She then pulled the knife out of Mr Evans which put him in more danger, the hearing was told.

The court heard that the ambulance service was called again and Mr Evans was taken to accident and emergency where x-rays revealed the puncture wound had penetrated one of his lungs, causing it to collapse.

The hospital report read out by Mr Barr said medics had been told ‘a large amount of alcohol and cocaine had been consumed’ at the party.

Mr Barr said Mr Evans had since recovered.

Defending, James Heyworth, said Duckworth’s behaviour ‘was in drink’ and his client would benefit from education about domestic violence and drinking responsibly.

The court heard that Duckworth had a previous police caution for an assault on a taxi driver in May 2017.

Judge Beverley Lunt said the injuries that had been inflicted were ‘life threatening’ and the offence was aggravated as Duckworth removed the knife and cancelled the ambulance. She said: “This was a highly premeditated attack. You left the room before picking up a knife and stabbing him in the back. I would be failing in my duty if I didn’t send you to prison immediately.”

Duckworth wept as she was led down to begin her sentence.
